Our Vision and Values

VISION FOR WASHACRE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Our vision is to be a leading primary school that provides every child with the best possible start in life, fostering a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where they can discover their full potential and develop a lifelong love of learning.

We are committed to achieving outstanding academic outcomes while ensuring excellence in inclusion and SEND support. Our school will be known for its innovative teaching and learning approaches, its strong, values-based culture, and for offering broad and varied experiences that nurture a deep appreciation of the outdoors and the natural world. We will consistently support children’s mental health and wellbeing and strive to have a positive impact on the local community.

Our goal is for children to leave our school as confident, emotionally resilient, and independent individuals. They will embody the core values of kindness, resilience, honesty, curiosity and responsibility, equipped with strong reading, writing, and maths skills, and the ability to make a positive impact on our world.

MISSION STATEMENT – OUR WHY (PURPOSE)

Our mission is to provide every child with the best possible start in life by creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that champions excellence in inclusion and SEND support. We are dedicated to fostering a lifelong love of learning, empowering children to discover their full potential, and equipping them with the skills and values to make a positive impact on our world.

OUR VALUES

Curiosity

We are learners—always. We ask questions, seek feedback, and aim higher every day.

• We are ambitious for ourselves, our pupils, and each other.

• We reflect on our practice, welcoming challenge and feedforward.

• We believe in potential—and strive to unlock it in every child.

How can this be seen in children:

• Asking questions to help you learn and understand new things.

• Being open to ideas from others, like when teachers observe each other to get feedback.

• Always looking for ways to improve your work, like thinking, "How can I make this a 10 out of 10?".

• Listening to feedback about your behaviour and using it to grow, because feedforward is a gift

Honesty

We speak and act with integrity. We are open, reflective, and accountable—even when it’s difficult.

• We share feedback kindly but clearly, focusing on growth.

• We own our actions and decisions—no excuses.

• We build trust by doing what we say we will do.

How can this be seen in children:

• Always telling the truth, even if you've made a mistake.

• Sharing your ideas and thoughts in class discussions.

• Being open about what you don't know and asking for help when you need it.

• If you disagree with a group decision, you might share your thoughts, but then you buy into and own the group decision once it's made.

Responsibility

I am Responsible. We take full ownership of our individual actions and our collective success.

• We operate with a "no excuses" mindset, taking initiative to do whatever it takes for our collective success.

• We take 100% responsibility for our behaviours—both the actions we take and those we could have chosen to take but didn’t.

• We demonstrate reliability by owning group decisions, meeting all deadlines, and caring for our shared environment

How can this be seen in children:

• Making sure your homework is done and handed in on time.

• Tidying up your own things and helping to keep the classroom neat.

• Helping a classmate or your teacher when you see an opportunity, without being asked.

• Taking 100% responsibility for your own behaviours, understanding that your choices empower you to make change.

• Contributing to group decisions and owning them, even if you disagreed at first, because we are all rowing in the same direction

Resilience

We persevere with determination, grit, and positivity. We do whatever it takes—together—to overcome challenges and achieve success.

  • We never give up on our pupils or each other.
  •  We take initiative, stay organised, and step up to help without being asked.

  • We bring a positive mindset even on the hardest days.

How can this be seen in children:

  • · Keeping on trying a tricky maths problem, even if you don't get it right the first time.
  • • Doing your share of the work in class or around school, even if it's an "odd job" or something
  • unexpected, because you know it helps everyone succeed.
  • Trying your hardest to achieve your goals in learning, because you believe all children will learn and succeed.
  • Not making excuses when something goes wrong but instead taking responsibility and finding a way to fix it or do better next time.

Kindness

We treat everyone with compassion, respect, and generosity. We support one another, value

every contribution, and build a joyful, caring community.

  • We show empathy, courtesy, and patience to all – children and adults alike.
  • We celebrate teamwork and bring warmth and humanity into our classrooms.
  • We act with humility and respect, regardless of role or responsibility.

How can this be seen in children:

  • Helping a friend who needs something, like picking up their dropped pencil.
  • Being polite to all adults and children in school, saying "please" and "thank you".
  • Being a good team player in class activities and not trying to get all the glory for yourself.
  • Looking after our shared spaces, like the classroom or playground.
  • Bringing a sense of joy to your classroom
